John Orme, a University of Tennessee College of Social Work professor, has been invited to become a fellow in the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare.
Orme is being recognized for his substantive work and research in foster care, particularly with foster families.
“I’m very honored to be elected to the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare,” said Orme. “The members of this organization are distinguished colleagues whom I admire and have learned from during my career.”
Orme has been a professor in UT’s College of Social Work since 1993. In addition to his expertise in foster care, his research focuses on the development and testing of measures for social work practice and research, applied statistical issues, and outcomes in evidence-based practice.
“John Orme is a leader in our college and a scholar whose ideas are impacting the social work field,” said Karen Sowers, dean of the College of Social Work.
The American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare is a society dedicated to achieving excellence in the field of social work and social welfare through high-impact work that advances social good.
The induction ceremony for new fellows will be at the Society for Social Work Research Conference Friday, January 15, at the Renaissance Hotel Downtown in Washington, D.C.
Orme joins Charles Glisson, former director of the College of Social Work’s Children’s Mental Health Services Research Center, as a fellow of the Academy.
