The campus kicks off an ambitious online giving campaign today. The Big Orange Give aims to raise $125,000 in 125 hours to aid the university on its journey to become a Top 25 public research university.

The campaign begins at 4:00 p.m. today and ends at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9.

The campaign will be driven primarily through its website and the social media channels of the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development. Follow the office on Facebook and Twitter for updates throughout the week.

The campaign will launch at 4:00 p.m. today with a video message featuring Peyton Manning posted on the website and the social media pages. For the rest of the week, daily videos will be posted that feature UT “celebrities” who have volunteered to lead off the day’s fundraising with their own gifts.

Also during the week, donors and friends of the university will be sharing why they give to UT with “I Big Orange Give because” photos on Facebook and Twitter using the #BigOrangeGive hashtag.

“Our students, faculty, staff, and alumni are doing research, making discoveries, and involved in innovative programs that can change the world,” said Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek. “We also are making improvements to our academic operation and our campus as part of our quest to become a Top 25 public research university. As our status increases, so does the value of every UT diploma—past, present, and future.”

Those wishing to participate in the Big Orange Give may give online. Donations may be targeted toward specific colleges or departments, or even specific student projects through the Impact Big Ideas program, a crowd-funding effort that allows individuals to make donations toward selected student projects in need of funding.
