Nan Gaylord, associate professor of nursing and founder of the Vine School Health Center, has been chosen as a 2013 Health Care Hero by the Greater Knoxville Business Journal. The CEOs of the five Knoxville-area hospital systems serve as judges of the program, selecting the Health Care Heroes from more than a hundred outstanding nominations. Gaylord is one of five individuals and one organization to be honored.

The legacy of Joseph Majdalani, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and the H. H. Arnold Chair of Excellence in Advanced Propulsion at the UT Space Institute, is being featured in the July/August edition of Aerospace America. The magazine is distributed to members of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) worldwide.
The article summarizes Majdalani’s prolific achievements. In the past four years Majdalani and seven of his graduate students have swept seven-out-of-seven best paper awards in the Southeast, thus culminating in the Abe Zarem Distinguished Award in Astronautics. Funded partly by the National Science Foundation, “such unprecedented winning streak is a testimony to the exceptional talent of students and faculty that UTSI attracts,” the article reads. Marian Roman, associate professor in the College of Nursing, has been named a recipient of the Award for Innovation from the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA). The APNA annual awards are one of the highest forms of recognition from psychiatric mental health nursing peers. Roman will be honored at the APNA Twenty-seventh Annual Conference in October in San Antonio, Texas.
