From medieval poetry to Greek myths, Marilyn Kallet has drawn inspiration from many sources.
Kallet, a UT English professor, has a new book coming out this year. She will share both her inspiration and her work with the community as part of the Writers in the Library series on April 15.
The reading will be in the Hodges Library Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Keith Norris, an associate professor at Pellissippi State Community College and a former UT student, will do a short opening reading. He is currently working on a show called “The Pleasures of Form.”
Kallet, director of UT’s Creative Writing program, published her new poetry collection, The Love That Moves Me, on March 16.
Kallet has been widely recognized for her poetry. Radio personality Garrison Keillor read one of Kallet’s poems, “Fireflies,” on air to his listeners last year.
Her poems have appeared in the New York Times, Prairie Schooner, Denver Quarterly, and other publications. She also has received the Tennessee Arts Commission Literary Fellowship in Poetry, written sixteen books, and performed internationally.
Chris Hebert, UT’s writer in residence, says of this historic event, “This is a rare and special treat. Any new book is a memorable occasion and a cause for celebration.”
