KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Communication and Information (CCI) will focus on making the college, its students and its faculty and staff more aware of issues of diversity and inclusiveness with a week-long series of lectures, films, discussion sessions and keynote presentations.
The series of events, “Diversity and Inclusion Week: Working Together to Build a Better World,” will be held Sept. 27 through Oct. 1 at various locations in the college and around the UT Knoxville campus.
The keynote speakers are CNN news anchor Don Lemon and Juliana Oyegun, director of diversity and inclusion for The World Bank, Washington, D.C.
“The inaugural CCI Diversity and Inclusion Week provides a great opportunity for our students, faculty, staff and the community to gain new insights into how diverse individuals think about the world,” said Alice Wirth, director of CCI’s Diversity Student Leaders Society. “The more we all learn about the diversity that surrounds us with respect to politics, religion, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, disability, nationality, media and the learning environment, the better equipped we will be to work together to develop solutions to the critical issues we face.”
Participants will gain diversity skills and knowledge, learn about “best practices” from college leaders and experts both inside and outside the university, and dialog with each other about a variety of diversity and inclusion issues.
