KNOXVILLE – Derick Moyo, deputy chief of the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C., will speak at a luncheon at the University of Tennessee on April 25.
Sponsored by the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, the luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the ballroom of the Carolyn P. Brown Memorial University Center, 1502 W. Cumberland Ave.
Before taking his current post in March 2005, Moyo was consul general in São Paulo, Brazil, and deputy chief of logistics for the World Conference Against Racism (WCAR) which was held in Durban, South Africa. He also served at the South African High Commission in Ottawa, Canada, where he was South Africa’s delegate to the World Conference to Stop the Use, Manufacture and Stockpiling of Anti-Personnel Landmines, and the World Conference on War-Affected Children.
Prior to his public service work, Moyo did public relations for the University of Cape Town and taught high school mathematics and biology.
Moyo holds a degree in international relations and social, anthropological and industrial sociology from the University of Cape Town and completed specialized courses in diplomacy at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Howard University and the Foreign Service Institute in New Delhi, India.
