KNOXVILLE — Communication in the workplace, indecency in television programming, millennial learning skills and the role of the Internet in women’s health are just a few of the topics researchers from around the country will discuss Friday at the College of Communication and Information’s 29th annual Research Symposium.
The event, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will be held in Rooms 226-227 of the Carolyn P. Brown Memorial University Center on the University of Tennessee campus.
“This all-college event celebrates the college’s research interdisciplinarity, our commitment to building a strong research culture within the college, and our desire to build graduate programs of the highest quality,” said Mike Wirth, dean of the college.
The theme of this year’s event is “Passport to the Future: International and Intercultural Research in Communication and Information.”
Ronald E. Rice, the Arthur N. Rupe Chair in the Social Effects of Mass Communication at the University of California at Santa Barbara and current president of the International Communication Association, will provide the keynote address, “What I Did for My Summer Vacation: Notes on International Scientific Communication,” at the symposium luncheon. The luncheon will be held from 12:45-2:15 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.
New to this year’s symposium is an international panel, which will be held from 10:20-11 a.m. Journalists from several countries will speak to the audience about media in their native countries.
Awards will be presented to the best doctoral and master’s student papers, best collaborative paper by a faculty member and a student and best posters at the close of the event.
