KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee is hosting a series of campus events Wednesday, Sept. 11, in remembrance of the victims of last year’s tragic terrorist attack.
UT Provost Loren Crabtree said the day of “Reflections on September 11” is open to everyone at UT and the Knoxville community.
A moment of reflection will be held from 8:50 a.m.-9:05 a.m. at the Ayres Hall front lawn. The UT community will pause for five minutes of silence all across the campus. Phi Mu Alpha will sing “America the Beautiful” and other selections. Chimes in Ayres Hall will ring.
The Student Activities Fair, an affirmation that life goes on, is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Rear Plaza, University Center.
The Ringing of the Chimes will be held from 12:05-12:20 p.m. at the Rock Near Fraternity Park at the corner of Volunteer and Pat Summit.
Dr. Rosalind Gwynne, associate professor of Religious Studies, will speak on “Reflection, Polarity, Regard: Muslims and Non-Muslims after Sept. 11” from 4-5 p.m. at the University Center Shiloh Room.
An Interfaith Student Forum and Prayer Service will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the University Center Auditorium.
UT School of Music will present a concert of classical and patriotic music to honor the victims and heroes of last year’s tragedy in “9-11: In Remembrance” at 7 p.m. in the Tennessee Theatre.
The final event is a candlelight vigil at 10 p.m. at UT’s Circle Park.
