KNOXVILLE — Award-winning author Alice Randall will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, in the University of Tennessee’s University Center Auditorium.

The program, sponsored by UT’s Black Cultural Programming Committee and the College of Law, is free and open to the public.

Randall is author of “The Wind Done Gone,” published by Houghton Mifflin Co. in June 2001. The book alludes to and parodies Margaret Mitchell’s classic “Gone with the Wind.”

Randall, a Detroit native raised in Washington, D.C., graduated from Harvard University in 1981.

She has worked in Washington, D.C., as a journalist and in Nashville as a songwriter and screenwriter.

Her screenplay productions include adaptations of “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” “Parting the Waters” and “Brer Rabbit.”

Randall recently was a recipient of the Al Neuharth Free Spirit Award, which honors individuals who have demonstrated an abundance of free spirit through a single act or a lifetime of achievement.
