OIT Services to be Interrupted on Dec. 19

ELEMENTS Update to Expand Faculty Ability to Track Activity

The second phase of ELEMENTS faculty activity tracking system will launch in January. This ELEMENTS module will be expanded to allow faculty members to add information about their creative activities—such as gallery shows, performances, or exhibits—and scholarship of engagement. The teaching component of ELEMENTS also will be expanded so faculty members can add activities such as student supervision, student advising, and participation in Experience Learning. With the opening of a new module—Professional Activities—faculty will be able to add service to their college, discipline, or the community. They also will be able to record professional consulting work and other forms of professional development. Read more...

Summer Session Ideal for Employees' Children

UT employees' sons and daughters who come home from other colleges during summer can continue to work on their degrees by taking classes here. UT welcomes visiting students to take a class on campus, abroad, or online. To apply for the summer semester, students should complete a UT VIP (Vol in Progress) application and submit a letter of good standing from their home institution. Read more...

Holy Batcave! Personal Sighting Leads Dinets to New Data on Spectral Bat
Spectral bats, also called false vampire bats for their imposing size—with a wingspan of over three feet—are the largest bats in the Americas and typically roost in trees in lowland forests. Vladimir Dinets, UT research assistant professor of psychology, has discovered evidence that the species also can live in caves and is more adaptable than previously thought, thanks to personal observation and information gleaned from social media accounts of tourists. Cone Zone

A section of Middle Drive in front of Perkins Hall will be closed from 7 a.m. Saturday, December 17, to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 18, for repair work on the Perkins Hall roof. During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Lower Drive but the Perkins Hall parking lot will be accessible. For more info call 974-3061.


Winter Peak Hours

Energy rates are highest between 5 and 11 a.m. Some things you can do to conserve energy use on campus during peak hours include keeping the heat at 68 degrees and allowing sunlight to warm up the room, turning off lights, and unplugging electronics when not in use. Read more...
