Dale Dickey to Receive Honorary Degree, Address Graduates

Knoxville-born actress Dale Dickey—who has been called "the reigning queen of Southern gothic"— will return to UT on Friday, December 11, to receive an honorary degree and address new graduates. Commencement ceremonies begin at 9:00 a.m. in Thompson-Boling Arena. More than 2,300 students are graduating this fall—1,795 undergraduates, 559 graduate students, and seven law students. International, Local Outlets Feature Alderman and Inwood in Rosa Parks Anniversary Story

December 1 marked the sixtieth anniversary of the day Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger—a move that launched a citywide boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, and other desegregation efforts.
