Update on Department of Labor Changes for UT Employees

Over the past several months, campus and institute leaders and human resources departments have been working to implement the US Department of Labor's changes to regulations in the Fair Labor Standards Act, which take effect December 1. The changes require that UT staff members who are paid less than $47,476 become nonexempt employees on December 1. The rule change is intended to provide employees with important wage and hour protections. Read more...

Committee Begins Search for New Institute of Agriculture Chancellor
The search for the next chancellor of the Institute of Agriculture began Friday with the first meeting of the search committee. The new chancellor will replace Larry Arrington, pictured, who is retiring Thursday. UT Extension Dean Tim Cross will serve as interim chancellor while a national search is conducted. Read more...

Reminder: New Bag Policy for Athletic Venues
A new safety policy is in effect for all athletic venues, including Neyland Stadium. Each fan is allowed to bring only one clear plastic bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches or a one-gallon clear resealable plastic storage bag. Read more...

Researchers Study Climate's Role in Demands Placed on Energy Grid
Changes in climate and shifts in population density can lead to significant changes in regional demand for electricity. As the nation plans its infrastructure improvements for the future, vulnerabilities at the local scale will be important. Joshua Fu, a UT professor of civil and environmental engineering, and his colleagues at UT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory are applying a new methodology for predicting the demands that future climate and population changes could place on the nation's energy grid.
