Polk Project Wins NEH Grant
The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded the James K. Polk Project, based in the Department of History, a $204,785 grant. So far, the project has released twelve volumes of Correspondence of James K. Polk, covering July 1817 to July 1847. Read more...

Tickets Available for Scott Kelly Event
Free tickets to attend the 5:30 p.m. Monday Life of the Mind event featuring US astronaut Scott Kelly are still available. UT faculty and staff can pick up tickets in the First–Year Studies office, Room 217 of Greve Hall. Humanities Center Welcomes New Class of Fellows

The Humanities Center has announced a new class of fellows for the 2016-17 academic year. Six faculty members and four advanced doctoral graduate students will spend the year researching and completing their work on topics such as collaboration in early African American and Native American literatures; the relation between theater artists and the mechanization of modern life; and the connection between justice and economic opportunity. Tennessee Olympians: Tianna (Madison) Bartoletta, Track and Field
Alumna Tianna Bartoletta, formerly Tianna Madison, still holds Tennessee's all-time best long jump mark both indoors and outdoors. She won the 2005 NCAA National Championships both indoors and outdoors in the long jump. She also earned three All-America honors her freshman year. She competes at 10:55 a.m. Friday in the 100-meter preliminary. NBC is live-streaming events online. Read more...

Tennessee Olympians: Tavis Bailey, Track and Field
Alumnus Tavis Bailey was a three-time All-American in the discus at Tennessee including two first-team nods and a runner-up finish during his senior year in 2015. He also earned All-America honors in the shot put and weight throw during his career at UT. Bailey competes at 9:55 a.m. Friday in the discus qualifying. NBC is live-streaming events online.
