Jim McIntyre Named Director of Center for Educational Leadership
After eight years as Knox County Schools Superintendent, Jim McIntyre will join UT as director of the Center for Educational Leadership effective August 1. "I am delighted to become part of the UT team," said McIntyre, who will also serve as a nontenure-track assistant professor of practice. "Our nationally recognized flagship university is doing remarkable work in the field of education, and I look forward to joining the outstanding faculty." Read more...

Friday's Picnic on the Plaza Moved to Thompson-Boling Arena
Knoxville-area faculty, staff, and retirees are invited to the Picnic on the Plaza, to be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 22, in Thompson-Boling Arena due to the threat of inclement weather. The picnic, hosted by Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek with support from the Institute of Agriculture, the Institute for Public Service, and President Joe DiPietro, is a special event to celebrate UT's faculty and staff and thank them for their service. Odom Recognized for Community Service at Chancellor's Honors Banquet on Tuesday
On Tuesday, Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek celebrated faculty, staff, and students for their accomplishments throughout the past academic year. Laura Odom, clinical nursing instructor, was recognized for her volunteer work as a nurse practitioner for the St. Mary’s Legacy Clinic, a full-service mobile facility that provides primary care to poor and medically underserved patients. Four-Star Navy Admiral and Tennessee Native Addresses Gathering
Admiral Harry Harris Jr., a four-star Navy admiral with Tennessee roots, spoke to a gathering of students, faculty and business leaders last week about security challenges facing America and how universities support the response. Harris, commander of the US Pacific Command, spent much of his youth in nearby Crossville. He returned as guest speaker for an event at Club LeConte hosted by the Aerospace and Defense Business Institute in the Haslam College of Business. Read more...
