Friday's Picnic on the Plaza Moved to Thompson-Boling Arena
Knoxville-area faculty, staff, and retirees are invited to the Picnic on the Plaza, to be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 22, in Thompson-Boling Arena due to the threat of inclement weather. The picnic, hosted by Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek with support from the Institute of Agriculture, the Institute for Public Service, and President Joe DiPietro, is a special event to celebrate UT's faculty and staff and thank them for their service. Run Through Campus to Benefit Smokey's Food Pantry
The Graduate Student Senate is hosting the Smokey's Pantry 5K at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, to benefit UT's new Smokey’s Food Pantry. Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. in Circle Park. Register online. Graduate School Survey Seeks Feedback from Campus Community
As the new dean of the Graduate School, Dixie Thompson wants to hear from the UT community about its interactions with the Graduate School. To gather feedback from graduate students, faculty, and staff, a brief survey is available online. High School Students Team with UT, ORNL to Produce New Type of Nail
UT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory have once again teamed up on a breakthrough technology—this time with a research idea inspired by a pair of high school students. Under the direction of engineering teacher Melinda Hamby, Max Lamantia and Devin Schafer, seniors at Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro, came up with the concept of a new type of nail to solve the issue of nails’ tendency to work themselves out of wood over time. UT Law Wins Second Place at National Prince Evidence Competition

A team of UT law students won second place and second-best brief in the Dean Jerome Prince Memorial Evidence Competition, besting thirty-four other law school teams from throughout the country. Students Sara Ohlman, Alex Thomason, and Garrett Ward represented UT Law in the thirty-first annual competition, hosted at Brooklyn Law School March 31 through April 2. Read more...

Plant Sciences Presents Distinguished Alumni Speaker

At 3:45 p.m. Monday, April 11, David Songstad, director of cell biology at Cibus, a San Diego-based biotechnology company known as a leader in precision gene editing for agriculture, will present the Department of Plant Sciences Seminar "Genome Editing: Beyond GMOs." Scripps Holds Workshop for Graphic Design Students
Sophomore graphic design students recently wrapped up a workshop led by the Scripps Networks Design and Motion Team. Members of the Scripps team spent the last week of February leading students through creative exercises to sharpen their motion design skills. Scripps professionals served as mentors and trainers for the students, who were attempting their first animation design. Read more...
