David Northington to Present Final Piano Concert Before Retiring

Professors Elected to American Academy of Microbiology

Frank Loeffler and Steven Wilhelm have been elected fellows of the American Academy of Microbiology. Loeffler, Governor's Chair for Microbiology and Civil and Environmental Engineering, is an environmental microbiologist whose research centers on discovering ways to clean the environment, counter the damage humans do to ecosystems, and improve environmental health. Wilhelm, Kenneth and Blaire Mossman Professor of Microbiology, is an oceanographer, limnologist, and molecular biologist who studies how microbial communities, including viruses, bacteria, and algae, interact to shape the planet. Scientists Gain Insights into Atomic Disordering of Complex Metal Oxides

A study led by UT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory could soon pay dividends in the development of materials with energy-related applications. Three UT researchers—Maik Lang, assistant professor of nuclear engineering; Haidong Zhou, assistant professor of physics; and Jacob Shamblin, a graduate research assistant in nuclear engineering and physics—studied an important class of complex metal oxides.
