Grzywacz Shares Notes from Russia
Robert Grzywacz, director of the UT-ORNL Joint Institute for Nuclear Physics and Applications and a physics professor, is in Russia this week to celebrate the discovery of the element Tennessine with a team from ORNL and their colleagues at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Moscow Oblast, Russia. Mason Proved Key Partner During Time at ORNL
Oak Ridge National Laboratory Director Thom Mason announced recently that he will step down from that position effective July 1. Major developments involving UT during Mason's time leading ORNL include the launch of the Spallation Neutron Source, the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Education, and IACMI—The Composites Institute, and the hiring of 14 current UT-ORNL Governor's Chairs. Halaychik Wins Award for Innovation
Corey Halaychik's leadership in crafting agreements for the yearly licensing of electronic resources has saved the university hours of negotiations. The 2017 ProQuest Coutts Award also recognizes Halaychik, a UT Libraries faculty member and electronic resources specialist, for co-founding The Collective, a new style of library conference held yearly in Knoxville since 2015. Nomani to Address Rights for Muslim Women
Journalist and author Asra Nomani, born into a conservative Muslim family from India, chronicles the struggle Muslim women face in reclaiming the rights granted at Islam's birth in the seventh century, which have been erased by centuries of man-made rules and tribal traditions. Nomani will speak about "The Paradox of Women in Islam" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at Alumni Memorial Building's Cox Auditorium. Read more...

New Policy on Drone Use on Campus in Effect

A new UT Knoxville policy governs the use of any unmanned aircraft system (UAS, or drone) on university property or in connection with university employment. Anyone planning to operate a drone on the UT Knoxville campus must get approval no less than seven days before doing so. Read more...

Maintenance Planned for Whirlwind Sculpture
Portions of the A Startling Whirlwind of Opportunity sculpture on Pedestrian Walkway will undergo maintenance beginning this month. During spring break, March 13–17, Facilities Services will remove and repair the sculpture's yellow lights. Read more...
