Student Superstars Shine Bright at UT Day on the Hill

A collection of future doctors, lawyers, engineers, executives, and idea-generators who lined the halls of Legislative Plaza on Wednesday all had one thing in common: A UT institution is preparing each of them to make an impact in Tennessee. The occasion for their visit was the tenth annual UT Day on the Hill. The event highlights students and entities from throughout the UT System by bringing them to Nashville as representatives of the university’s mission to educate, connect, and discover. Read more...

Slade Hired as Associate Director in Equity and Diversity
Izetta Slade, human resources officer and director of Extension Evaluation and Staff Development at the UT Institute of Agriculture, has been named associate director in the UT Knoxville Office of Equity and Diversity. She will begin in mid-March. Read more...

Scholar to Discuss Changing Image of Jesus as Financial Role Model
Long before the rise of the so-called prosperity gospel at home and abroad, mainline Protestantism was filled with images of Jesus as a consumer-friendly champion of industry. A Harvard University scholar will discuss the historical and cultural underpinnings that contributed to this theological world view during a lecture at UT at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 23. Olsson Is Quest Scholar of the Week
Tore Olsson, assistant professor of history, was recently the recipient of a year-long fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities. He will use his time away from teaching to complete his first book, Agrarian Crossings: Remaking the U.S. and Mexican Countryside in the Twentieth Century (under contract, Princeton University Press), which explores the interconnected rural histories of Mexico and the United States from the Great Depression to the Cold War. Quest, the campus's comprehensive research initiative, has selected Olsson as its Scholar of the Week. Read more...

Register for Wild Bird Eggstravaganza
The Wild Bird Eggstravaganza at UT Gardens, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, celebrates the coming of spring. Families will learn how to attract birds to their home garden and create natural, spring-inspired crafts. All kids will leave with a bird house, a bird feeder, a bird nest model and an egg model. Kids will have an opportunity to hunt for 3,000 eggs, some of which contain prize tickets. Children can also get pictures made with the Easter Bunny. Read more...
