DiPietro Gives First State of UT Address

The state of UT is as strong as the depth and breadth of its impact, President Joe DiPietro said in his first-ever State of the University address Tuesday. Before a capacity live crowd and hundreds more watching a streaming webcast, DiPietro also declared UT's position on recent issues. "Despite the many recent challenges that have created some very public distractions from our success, the true state of your university is very, very strong," he said. "And, we are accomplishing more and more, each and every day as we educate, discover and connect." Read more...

McSween Receives President's Award for Discovery
Harry "Hap" McSween, Distinguished Professor of Science, received the President's Award for research on Tuesday following President Joe DiPietro's State of UT address. The award honors discoveries and applications of knowledge. Five other Knoxville-area faculty and staff were among the nominees for awards honoring achievement in education, research, and outreach. Faculty Appreciation Week Begins Monday
Faculty Appreciation Week begins Monday and runs through Sunday, February 28. The theme of this year's celebration is "Going the Extra Mile" to highlight Experience Learning. Special events are planned throughout the week and some are now accepting reservations. A number of discounts will also be available for faculty during the week. See the Faculty Appreciation website for details. HR Connection: Employee Relations Advisory Organization Offers a Seat at the Table
The Employee Relations Advisory Organization, or ERAO, was established in 1972 to provide direct communication between regular staff nonexempt employees and university officials. The ERAO also provides university officials with an effective method of soliciting and disseminating information about employee plans and programs. Read more...

Big Orange Family Campaign Runs Through March 11
On Monday, UT launched the third annual Big Orange Family Campaign. This year's theme is "I'm on the Journey." The goal is to increase participation among faculty and staff members to 55 percent. Last year, over 50 percent of faculty and staff members took part in the Big Orange Family Campaign. Nineteen departments and units had 100 percent participation. Read more...

Undergrads Invited to Submit WWII Essays for First Annual Hop Bailey Jr. Prize

Applications are now being accepted for the first annual Hop Bailey Jr. Essay Prize. Undergraduate students are invited to submit an essay addressing the experience of Americans who served in World War II and how they were changed as a result. The deadline to submit a completed essay is March 15. Read more...
