Reminder: Lace Up Your Sneakers for the Be Well Kickoff Lunch Thursday
Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek invites all UT Knoxville employees to a lunch celebrating the launch of a new employee wellness program, Be Well. The event will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday in Thompson-Boling Arena. After lunch, attendees are invited to play basketball on the court or walk laps on the concourse level. Read more...

Nervous System Could be Map to Computing Breakthrough

The next big leap in computing could be just around the corner, thanks to a project being conducted by UT's College of Engineering and the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute. The two are developing a computing system that mimics the nervous system to design a chip that would allow computers to operate at an even faster rate and calculate more complicated processing than binary-based computing. Alderman Quoted in International Stories for Anniversary

UT geographer Derek Alderman, who studies the politics of place names, says renaming streets for Martin Luther King Jr. is a way to "construct a new geography of public memory." Murray Talks Gas Prices with Bakken Magazine
Matt Murray, director of the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, was recently featured in The Bakken Magazine. According to Murray, low gasoline prices are helping America’s economy avoid some of the downturns experienced in other parts of the world. The low prices have freed up a large amount of purchasing power for American consumers that’s being pumped back into the economy. Read more...
