Student Resident Assistants from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, on Saturday will celebrate the dedication of a house they built with their bare hands. More than 100 UT students contributed more than 800 volunteer hours over the course of five Saturdays in February and March to build the 1,496-square foot house in northwest Knoxville.

Do your summer plans include more than just soaking up some sun or sleeping till noon? Do you plan to take part in a volunteer project or other community service? “Volunteers Rock the World!” — part of the Ready for the World Initiative — is looking for members of the UT Knoxville family who are lending a hand at home or in communities around the globe.
Jorge Roman, a UT Knoxville sports psychology master’s student, is a proud big brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee program. He visits his little brother, Josh, a fourth-grader at South Knoxville Elementary School, as often as he can despite his own school obligations.
More than a dozen golden retrievers have found a second chance at life and love, thanks to two students at UT Knoxville. Carol Newsom and Erica Eads both volunteer with the Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, which helps displaced and discarded golden retrievers find good homes.
UT Knoxville sophomore Katie Riley is co-chairing the “Fierce & Fancy Formals” fashion show to raise money for a secondary school in Boucan-Carre, Haiti. Riley is a volunteer for an organization called Haiti Outreach Program, which is an ecumenical mission of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville.
