University Receives $1 Million to Fight Childhood Obesity

A partnership between UT Extension, the Institute of Agriculture, and UT’s Nutrition Department is tackling our state and nation’s obesity problem. The USDA recently announced UTIA and UT Knoxville will receive a $1 million grant for this effort. It will be used to create a regional center to strengthen educational programming for low-income children and families.

Tyson Foods CEO and Wife to Give $3.2 Million to Institute of Agriculture

Donnie Smith, CEO of Arkansas-based Tyson Foods, Inc., and his wife, Terry, have pledged a $3.2 million gift that establishes the Donald and Terry Smith Endowed Chair for International Sustainable Agriculture through the UT Foundation. Donnie Smith earned his undergraduate degree in animal science from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and his wife, Terry, is a graduate of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.

UT Agriculture Chancellor Search Accepting Nominations

UT Knoxville Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek is chairing the search committee to fill the UT Institute of Agriculture chancellor vacancy. He invites the UT community to help in the search process for this important position in the statewide UT System.
