Campus Construction Making ‘Strong’ Progress This Fall

UT’s innovative Strong Hall, the university’s first general classroom and lab building in many years, is among several new additions and upgrades awaiting the campus community for the new academic year. The building opened for summer classes in June.

Campus Construction Progress to Continue in 2017

The spring semester brings several big campus improvement milestones, beginning with the opening of the new Stokely Family Residence Hall. Inside the building, the Fresh Food Company, a new POD Market, and a Starbucks WPS open today to all students, faculty, staff and visitors. Jamba Juice, also serving Starbucks coffee, in TRECS opens today. Strong Hall, a state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory building on Cumberland Avenue, will open its doors in mid-March.

Construction Begins on Strong Hall Renovation and Expansion

Work has begun on turning the vacant Sophronia Strong Hall into a large and modern science class and laboratory facility. The two-year, $114 million project marks the first big step in addressing the university’s need for general class and laboratory space. The renovation and expansion project will preserve 20,000 square feet of the original structure, including the building’s distinctive front arches, the front stone wall, and footbridge across Cumberland Avenue. The project also includes the restoration of a small Queen Anne style gardener’s cottage on the north corner of the site.
