Architecture Student Wins Gensler Diversity Internship, Scholarship Contest

Tabitha Darko, a first-generation immigrant from Ghana and a UT architecture student, hopes to unite her cultural heritage with her passion for design to create meaningful architecture. As a winner of the Gensler Diversity Internship and Scholarship, she is now one step closer to her dream. Darko received one of three top academic scholarships from Gensler, a global architecture, design, and planning firm and a paid summer internship in the firm’s regional office in San Francisco.

Senior Wins Udall Scholarship, Will Pursue Environmental Career

Brian Conlon, a senior, is one of fifty students nationwide who have been awarded the Udall Scholarship, which recognizes students committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care. Conlon, who is majoring in honors environmental studies and German, will receive up to $5,000 from the Udall Foundation.

Five UT Students, Alumni Win Fulbright Awards for Study, Work

Five current students or recent graduates from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, have received grants from the Fulbright US Student Program to work and study abroad. This is the largest number of student Fulbright winners that UT Knoxville has had in at least twenty years.

Handelsman Named Faculty Director of UT Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships

Michael Handelsman has been named the faculty director of the Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships at UT Knoxville. Handelsman, a professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, will help students apply for nationally competitive awards such as the Fulbright, Goldwater, Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Udall, and Gates-Cambridge scholarships.

UT Athletics Supports Academics with $10 Million Contribution, Including $1.375 Million for Student Scholarships

Continuing the tradition, the UT Athletic Department is providing funds in support of academics for the University of Tennessee and the Knoxville campus. With a total gift of just over $10 million, $1.375 million goes to support academic scholarships awarded to non-student athletes including Volunteer, Bicentennial and band scholarships, as well as scholarships for members of the Peyton Manning and Neyland Scholars Programs.

Faculty Concert to Benefit UT School of Music Student Scholarship Fund

Music faculty from UT Knoxville will join forces in a special performance to help raise money for the UT School of Music Student Scholarship Fund. The Tellico Musicale will take place from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Tellico Village Yacht Club in Loudon.

UT Architecture Student Wins National Minority Scholarship

Asia Dixon, a senior in architecture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, wants to use her degree to make a difference in the lives of other people. Thanks to the Gensler African-American Internship and Scholarship competition, she’s now a lot closer to being able to do just that.
