Troy Lane Named UT Chief of Police

Troy Lane, chief of police at the University of Wyoming, has been named the chief of police for the UT Police Department. Lane, who has more than sixteen years of campus law enforcement experience, will begin June 25. Lane replaces former chief Gloria Graham, who left in January 2012 to become assistant chief of police at the University of Chicago.

Community Invited to Public Forum for UT Police Department Accreditation

The UT Police Department is preparing for its first reaccreditation review and is asking the campus and surrounding community for input. Representatives from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, who are evaluating the department, will hold a public forum from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on April 4, in the Shiloh Room of the Carolyn P. Brown University Center.

WVLT: Security changes since 9/11

WVLT-TV spoke with Lt. Emily Simerly of the UT Police Department about security changes on campus since the terror attacks on September 11, 2001. UT Knoxville hosts high-profile guests and crowds of thousands, both of which are potential terrorism targets. Simerly says UTPD is as prepared as it’s ever been, and that most people probably don’t notice the bulk of the changes that have taken place.

UTPD ‘Ties One On for Safety’ This Holiday Season

Officials from the UTPD recently joined fellow law officers from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol and representatives from the Governor’s Highway Safety Council in support of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)’s “Tie On One for Safety” campaign.
