UT undergraduate students are making discoveries as they work with faculty members to develop research projects and creative activities for presentation at the 15th annual Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURēCA) as part of Research Week, March 26 through April 1.

Beginning Saturday, March 26, UT Knoxville will sponsor its second annual Research Week highlighting undergraduate research and other research activities on campus. Research Week is sponsored by the Office of the Chancellor and administered by the Office of Research. Activities for Research Week will be concentrated between March 26 and April 1, though some events will occur outside of those dates.
When Jordan Sawyer came to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as a freshman in the aerospace engineering program, he had no idea he would be conducting research side-by-side with a professor on the laser diagnostics of combustion processes. Thanks to a revamped Office of Research website, UT Knoxville students will be able to more easily find undergraduate research opportunities like Sawyer’s.
The national search for a vice chancellor for research for UT Knoxville is officially under way. The committee, chaired by Provost Susan Martin, met for the first time Thursday. The goal is to appoint a leader who will continue the momentum in expanding the university’s research base and strengthening and building new strategic partnerships. Research is at the heart of many of the university’s priorities and is integral to the mission in becoming a top 25 public institution.
UT Knoxville’s Office of Research and the Academic Outreach and Engagement Council recently announced a new incentive grant program to fund campus outreach projects. As part of the campus’ commitment to community engagement and the scholarship of academic outreach, the two units have issued a call for proposals that may include projects, partnerships or programs that promote outreach and engagement in research, scholarship, or creative activity; in teaching; or in service.
Stephen Kania, associate professor of comparative medicine at UT Knoxville, will deliver this week’s UT Science Forum lecture, “Antibiotic-Resistant Staphylococci: Staying One Step Ahead.” His talk will begin at noon on Friday, March 26, in Thompson-Boling Arena Dining Room C-D.
