Norman Mannella, associate professor of physics and astronomy, will talk about the “Marvels of Matter All Around Us” at this week’s Pregame Showcase at the University of Tennessee. The showcase will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, in the Carolyn P. Brown University Center Ballroom (Room 213), before the Vols take on Arkansas State University.

It’s football time in Tennessee, and that means a new Pregame Showcase lineup. Now in its twenty-fifth season, the Pregame Showcase gives fans the chance to hear from esteemed faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences prior to each gridiron matchup. This year’s first showcase will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, before the Vols face the Utah State Aggies.
Three UT Knoxville faculty members have received substantial support from the National Science Foundation to pursue early-career research projects. Chemist Jon Philip Camden, physicist Norman Mannella, and aeronautic engineer Kivanc Ekici have received NSF CAREER awards, the foundation’s most prestigious award for junior faculty.
For seventy-nine years now UT’s Science Forum has brought cutting-edge science to a level understood by everyone. This semester’s lineup of forum programs begins at noon on Friday, February 3, with a presentation by Flora Meilleur, assistant professor of biochemistry at North Carolina State University. Her presentation, “Neutrons for Biology and Bioenergy,” will cover research she is currently doing at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
