The School of Information Sciences in the College of Communication and Information has received two grants which total more than $850,000 from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to train information science experts.

The College of Communication and Information is about to open its new Adam Brown Social Media Command Center, where faculty, staff, and students can analyze their social media marketing activities.
Sharon Price John, CEO of Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc. and a proven expert in corporate turnarounds, will receive the 2014 Donald G. Hileman Alumni Award from the College of Communication and Information at its awards and scholarship donor appreciation banquet on Friday, November 14.
The College of Communication and Information will celebrate its Diversity and Inclusion Week September 22–25 with a keynote speech, an open forum, panels, and a diversity festival. Jose Aponte, director of the San Diego County Library System, will deliver the keynote address at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, in the McClung Museum auditorium.
Alumnus Larry Patrick has given $1 million to the College of Communication and Information, the largest single cash gift in the college’s history, to establish a distinguished professorship to honor a longtime professor and administrator. Patrick also increased his estate gift to the college to $5 million.
“Expanding and Understanding our Diverse World” is the theme of this year’s College of Communication and Information Diversity and Inclusion Week, October 1-4. The week will feature panel discussions on a wide range of diversity issues, culminating with the CCI Diversity and Inclusion Festival, Thursday, October 4, in Circle Park.
Journalist Woody Paige is best known for his sports knowledge and wit. The ESPN broadcaster and Denver Post reporter and columnist credits UT’s journalism school for building a great foundation for his career. Paige was honored Monday with an Accomplished Alumni award.
Margaret Morrison, professor and interim director of the School of Advertising and Public Relations, has been named the permanent director of the school effective July 1. Morrison joined the UT Knoxville faculty in 1995 and completed her doctoral degree from the University of Georgia the following year. She is the current vice president of the American Academy of Advertising.
“Leaping Forward in Communication and Information Research” is the theme of the College of Communication and Information’s thirty-fourth annual Research Symposium on February 29 on the campus of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
The new Scripps Convergence Lab is open for business in the College of Communication and Information at UT Knoxville. The lab opened at the start of the spring semester, and a grand opening celebration will be held Friday in the lab, located on the fourth floor of the College of Communication and Information. The event is by invitation only.
