UT Mini-Summit to Focus on Photography, Poverty and Politics in the South and Abroad

“Baldwin Lee, James Agee and Walker Evans: Photography, Poverty, Politics in the South and Abroad” will be theme of a mini-summit to be held Feb. 4 and 11 at UT Knoxville. “Let Us Now Praise Famous Men,” by author James Agee and photographer Walker Evans, will be the used in various discussions on the first day. The second day will fast forward 50 years to the 1980s, with an exhibit and a presentation about photographs taken by UT Professor Baldwin Lee.

Knoxville Author James Agee the Focus of Season’s Final Pregame Showcase

Michael Lofaro, professor of English, will lead this week’s College of Arts and Sciences Pregame Faculty Showcase. His presentation, “James Agee at 100: A Centennial Celebration,” is part of the month long celebration, which has included lectures, concerts and a museum exhibit about the prolific author and his work.

James Agee Celebration Concludes with Music and Lectures

The James Agee Centennial Celebration, a monthlong series of events marking the 100th birthday of the Knoxville native and Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, screenwriter, journalist, author and poet, concludes this weekend with an evening of music at Laurel Theater and lectures at the UT University Center Ballroom and the Knox County downtown public library.

UT to Hold Month-long Celebration of James Agee Beginning Oct. 23

UT Knoxville will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of James Agee, the Knoxville native and Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, screenwriter, journalist, author and poet, with four weekends of events, including a film festival, lectures, exhibitions and a concert and picnic. The James Agee Centennial Celebration begins Friday, Oct. 23, and wraps up on Sunday, Nov. 22.
