Two professors—one who researches ways to clean up the environment and another who studies how microbial communities interact to shape the planet—have been elected fellows of the American Academy of Microbiology.
Jeffrey Becker, professor and department head of microbiology and a Chancellor’s Professor, is the first recipient of the newly established David and Sandra White Faculty Award in Microbiology.
The American Society for Microbiology has selected Madelyn Crawford, Farragut native and senior in microbiology, as a 2012 award recipient of its Undergraduate Research Fellowship. This fellowship is aimed at highly competitive students who wish to pursue graduate careers in microbiology.
