Professor’s Book Reveals How Sportswriters Helped Create Baseball ‘Heroes’

Baseball, the great American pastime, has given us plenty of memorable figures. In Inventing Baseball Heroes, Assistant Professor Amber Roessner of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media—a former sportswriter—examines how some sports journalists compromised their journalistic ethics to help make American heroes out of two of baseball’s most enduring personalities, Detroit Tigers outfielder Ty Cobb and New York Giants pitcher Christy Mathewson.

Faculty Book Authors to be Honored April 29

Faculty members who have published books within the last year will be honored at a reception on Tuesday, April 29, in the John C. Hodges Library. The campus community is invited to the reception, which will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Jack E. Reese Galleria on the first floor of the library.

The campus is invited to a reception that will honor and celebrate the success and scholarly contributions of faculty who have recently published books. The event will be 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 29, in the Jack E. Reese Galleria of the John C. Hodges Library. Faculty books will be on display at the reception.

UT Libraries Faculty Authors Reception in March

The Office of Research and the University Libraries will host a reception honoring faculty book authors on March 29, in the Jack E. Reese Galleria of the John C. Hodges Library. The University Libraries is seeking faculty who have published scholarly monographs in 2011-2012 so that they may be invited to the reception.

UT to Celebrate Its Faculty Authors

The University of Tennessee Libraries and the UT Knoxville Office of Research will recognize and celebrate university faculty who have written books during the last year with a special faculty authors reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the first-floor galleria of Hodges Library.
