The role of the state in defining and regulating marriage. The right of birth parents to choose adoptive parents for their children. The legal liability parents might face if they choose not to vaccinate their children and their children make others sick. Those are just a few of the headline-making issues Professor Teri Baxter examines in her research and when she’s teaching her family and privacy law seminar. Alex Long, a professor of law at UT since 2007, teaches and writes about torts, professional responsibility, employment law, and disability law. Long has helped the college develop two of its innovative new programs as a member of the Academic Standards and Curriculum Committee—the Master of Laws (LLM) program and the 3+3 program.
Susan Groenke tries to figure out how to motivate adolescents to read and write—and then shares that knowledge with current and future teachers. Groenke teaches a variety of courses that allow her students to hone their teaching skills in true classroom settings. Angela Wozencroft’s career is an ongoing exercise in experiential learning. She oversees UT students who work at Camp Koinonia, Camp Oginali, Koinonia Retreat, Vision Camp, and Project TRiPS—all camps for youth with a variety of disabilities.
Matt Gray and Joanne Logan are recognized for “Going the Extra Mile” in their teaching in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

John Orme and Uma Rao are the College of Social Work’s honorees for Faculty Appreciation Week.
Jeff Biskup and Katie Tolbert are the College of Veterinary Medicine faculty being honored for “Going the Extra Mile” for their students. An assistant professor and small-animal internist, Tolbert works to learn more about animal diseases and new safe treatment options. Although Biskup’s clinical interest is in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, within a span of four days, the assistant professor could be on clinicals with students, performing surgery, talking to animal owners, or conducting research.
