UT to Install Natural Playground at Head Start Center for Pupils, Research

UT faculty is joining community volunteers today and Saturday, June 7, to install a new natural playground at the North Head Start Center. The playground will give students a new recreation area and provide researchers with an opportunity to study the environment’s impact on children’s activity levels.

Early Learning Center Hosts Multiple Open Houses this Spring

The UT Early Learning Center for Research and Practice will host open houses this spring for families interested in kindergarten. Families have the opportunity to meet program staff, tour classrooms, and learn about the center’s curriculum and philosophy. The first open house will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, at the center’s 1206 White Avenue location. A second will take place on Sunday, February 2.

The children and staff at UT’s Early Learning Center have begun growing a lot of their own food in an effort to eat healthier. They want the school’s new kitchen garden to be a model for the community and a training ground for early childhood educators on gardening with young children and families. The school is inviting the community to a garden party from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at 1206 White Avenue.

UT’s Early Learning Center will host several open houses this fall for families of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners. Families can meet program directors and teachers, tour classrooms, and learn about the center’s curriculum and philosophy. The first open house will be from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9.
