Carcello Named to Securities and Exchange Commission Committee

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has named Professor Joseph V. Carcello to its Investor Advisory Committee. He is the only business school professor appointed to the committee. Carcello is the E&Y and Business Alumni Professor and head of the Department of Accounting and Information Management in UT’s College of Business Administration. He also is executive director of the UT Neel Corporate Governance Center.

UT Students Rank in Top 3 Percent in Nation for Passing 2013 CPA Exam

UT students ranked in the top 3 percent in the nation for their passage rates on the Certified Public Accountant exam, according to recently released numbers. UT students ranked twenty-sixth out of 787 schools among all national programs, according to the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, which recently reported its 2013 CPA examination passage rates for all US universities.

Pershing Yoakley & Associates Names Classroom in Business School

The College of Business Administration has named a classroom in the James A. Haslam II Business Building after Pershing Yoakley and Associates, one of the nation’s largest health care consulting and accounting firms. The firm made a generous leadership gift to the college that will support its technology and its Department of Accounting and Information Management.

Larry Evans Named 2013 Distinguished Accounting Alumnus

Larry Evans, partner at Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP, has received the 2013 Distinguished Accounting Alum Award from the Department of Accounting and Information Management in the College of Business Administration. Evans received a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1969 and a Master of Business Administration in 1971.

Professor Receives Two Prestigious Accounting Awards

Bruce Behn, head of the Department of Accounting and Information Management in the College of Business Administration and a faculty fellow in the college’s Center for Business and Economic Research, has received special awards from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Accounting Association.

Public Accounting Report: UT Programs Rank in Top 25

UT’s undergraduate and master’s-level accounting have been ranked in the top 25 in the country among all universities, according to the 2013 Public Accounting Report. Both College of Business Administration programs ranked twenty-fourth among programs with comparable faculty sizes. The Public Accounting Report is the industry’s benchmark publication that annually ranks accounting programs worldwide.

UT students rank in the top 5 percent nationally for their passage rates on the Certified Public Accountant exam, according to recently released numbers. UT students ranked thirty-seventh out of 781 across all national programs, according to the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, which recently reported its 2012 CPA examination passage rates for all universities across the United States.

Burkhart is Distinguished Accounting Alumnus

Renda Burkhart

Renda Burkhart, 1976 alum of the UT College of Business Administration, has earned the 2012 Distinguished Accounting Alum Award from the college’s Department of Accounting and Information Management. Burkhart is the founder and president of Burkhart and Company, P.C., an accounting firm that offers financial, accounting, and tax consulting and compliance services to entrepreneurs and individuals.
