The Apartment Residence Hall on Andy Holt Avenue will close by the end of this month and demolition will begin in June, as part of UT’s four-year plan to replace six residence halls around Presidential Court with seven new facilities.
An industrial complex at 2000 Sutherland Avenue will serve as the future home for the UT Facilities Services department. Formerly the site of Southeast Precast Corporation, and before that the Gray Knox Marble Company, the property’s 91,000-square-foot plant structure will house offices, warehouse space, workshops, and labs.
A section of Phillip Fulmer Way from Cumberland Avenue to Middle Drive will close on Friday, May 1, as part of the ongoing Student Union construction project.
Work will begin in May, after spring commencement, on a renovation of Torchbearer Plaza and Circle Park.
A two-year City of Knoxville project to reconstruct the Cumberland Avenue corridor through campus is underway. Motorists should anticipate closed lanes from West Volunteer Boulevard to Twenty-First Street to allow for a one-block tapering of traffic.
Spring semester has arrived, and it’s now peak season for our efforts to transform our campus. Several ongoing projects will soon cross major milestones, while a few new upgrades will kick off later this spring.
Several improvements are being made to the Cumberland Avenue side of Ayres Hall and a primary pedestrian pathway to the Hill.
Several adjustments were made to faculty and staff parking earlier this month, in preparation for the new academic year.
Students and faculty returning to Rocky Top next week can expect to see several large transformations to campus. Most notable are the new Fred D. Brown Jr. Residence Hall and the new pedestrian bridge connecting the Johnson-Ward Pedestrian Walkway to the Hill. A new location to eat and shop will open along Cumberland Avenue, just in time for the Volunteers’ home opener game on August 31.
Continuing work on the Strong Hall construction site will close the nearby pedestrian bridge over Cumberland Avenue on August 6 for the fall and spring semesters. A reopening date has not yet been set.
