Section of 16th Street to Close March 15-23

A section of Sixteenth Street from Cumberland Avenue to White Avenue will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day from Saturday, March 15, to Sunday, March 23.

New Student Union is Taking Shape

Construction on the new Student Union project is progressing well and on schedule. The six-story structure has been formed from steel, and workers are pouring the concrete floors. A new pedestrian bridge is being built and will provide a new connection to the Hill by this fall. The first phase of work is set for completion by spring 2015.

Demolition of Stokely and Gibbs Underway

Work has begun on the demolition of Stokely Athletics Center and Gibbs Hall. The university is making way for a new residence hall and dining facility and parking garage on the site at the corner of Volunteer and Lake Loudoun Boulevards. Plans are also in place to expand Haslam Field on the site. Abatement work has started on Stokely and Johnny Majors Drive has been closed to through traffic as part of the planned demolition.

Repairs Resume to Andy Holt Tower

Work is resuming to repair the exterior of Andy Holt Tower. With the end of classes for the fall semester, security fences have been placed around the base of the tower to protect the work site.

Campus Cable TV Outage Set for Thursday

Cable television service to campus buildings will be interrupted for much of the day Thursday as work crews move the existing fiber optic cables to accommodate the construction of the new Student Union. The outage will start at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, November 21, and will last a minimum of eight hours.

Campus Prepares for Eagles Concert November 13

The University of Tennessee is welcoming fans of the legendary rock group the Eagles, who will perform at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, in Thompson-Boling Arena. The sold-out concert will bring more than 16,000 guests to campus, affecting traffic and parking.

Campus to Reopen West Entrance to University Center, Close Section of Phillip Fulmer Way

The west-side entrance to the University Center at Smokey’s Cafeteria will reopen on Monday, November 4, as part of the ongoing Student Union construction project. The entrance was closed earlier this year during the demolition of Temple Court and Aconda Court. To encourage students and employees to use the west-side entrance, ARAMARK will be at the door on Monday giving out coupons and discounts for diners.
