Grad Student Wins US State Department Wonk Tank Competition

Millicent Smith, a graduate student in journalism, will spend her summer in a paid internship with the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC, after winning a national wonk tank competition sponsored by the US Department of State. Smith developed her proposal, “He for She for Delhi,” as part of a team in Journalism and Electronic Media Professor Catherine Luther’s international journalism class.

Baker Center Becomes Diplomacy Lab Partner with US Department of State


The Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy has been selected as a partner in the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomacy Lab program. The Diplomacy Lab helps the State Department broaden its research base and more effectively respond to a variety of global challenges.

Rentsch Appointed CCI Associate Dean for Academic Programs


Joan Rentsch, professor of communication studies and director of the College of Communication and Information’s Integrative Organizational Research Laboratory, has been named the college’s new associate dean for academic programs. She will begin her new role on August 1.

Four Faculty Members Chosen as SEC Academic Leadership Development Program Fellows

Four faculty members have been selected as fellows for the Southeastern Conference’s 2012-13 Academic Leadership Development Program. David Golden, Catherine Luther, John Stier, and Penny White join forty-six faculty and administrators from SEC schools who were chosen to participate in the professional development initiative.
