Four UT Researchers Named 2016 AAAS Fellows

Four professors with UT ties have been named to the American Association for the Advancement of Science class of fellows for 2016: Brian Wirth, Karen Hughes, George Ostrouchov and Baohua Gu. The fellows will be inducted in February 2017 at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston.

UT Launches International Journal of Nuclear Security

The International Journal of Nuclear Security, a peer-reviewed journal that publishes scholarly articles and research related to all aspects of nuclear security, is now available online and free to the public.

The US Department of Energy has named Brian Wirth, a joint UT College of Engineering and Oak Ridge National Laboratory appointee, an Ernest Orlando Lawrence Award winner for 2014. Given by the DOE in recognition of research supporting science, energy, or national security, it is considered the highest achievement that a midcareer researcher can receive.

UT, ORNL Lead National Team to Study Materials Performance in Nuclear Fusion Reactors

Power from nuclear fusion reactors has the promise to be safe, sustainable, and limitless. But science has not been able to bring fusion energy to the commercial energy market. This is partly because the operating limits of the reactor materials are not known. A team of researchers at UT Knoxville and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, in collaboration with seven other institutions, is trying to solve this challenge.
