UT Alumni Bring Home the Gold at 2012 Olympic Games

Eight UT alumni brought home a total of ten medals, including five golds, from the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The 2012 medal tally for former UT athletes surpasses the school’s previous record of eight medals, which was set at the 1996 Games in Atlanta. UT’s total medal count places the university seventh among all schools and second among SEC programs for this year’s Olympics.

Comedienne Leanne Morgan Named to 2012 Accomplished Alumni

UT has named comedienne Leanne Morgan to its list of Accomplished Alumni of 2012. Morgan, a 1992 graduate of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, made a name for herself in the comedy world after appearing on ABC’s “The View” and as a finalist on Nick at Nite’s “Funniest Mom.”

John Hubbard, senior vice president and worldwide head of development operations for Pfizer, Inc., was this year’s commencement speaker for the College of Arts and Sciences. In his address to the graduates, Hubbard shared how his time at UT helped foster future big ideas.

Two UT College of Law Alumni to Speak about ‘Inside Washington’

Two College of Law alumni with broad experience inside the Beltway will visit campus on Wednesday, March 14, to share their experiences. Chuck Fleischmann and Jo-Marie St. Martin will speak on “Inside Washington” at noon in Room 132 of the College of Law. The event is free and open to the public.

UT Alumnus and Art Historian Robert Hobbs to Lecture on Thursday

UT Knoxville alumnus Robert Hobbs has curated dozens of exhibitions around the globe. This week, he’s visiting UT Knoxville for a lecture at the School of Art. The free lecture will begin at 7 p.m., Thursday Oct. 28, in Art and Architecture Building room 109.

UT Graduates, Renowned Artists Receive Accomplished Alumni Award

Two UT Knoxville School of Art alumni visited the campus for a lecture and exhibit opening on Thursday, Sept. 16. Bill FitzGibbons and Creighton Michael, both accomplished artists, launched the Filament exhibit which will run through Oct. 31 in the Ewing Gallery, housed in the campus Art and Architecture building.

UT Alumnus Jim Brogan Establishes MBA Fellowship in Father’s Honor

UT Knoxville alumnus Jim Brogan of Brogan Financial has established the Beauchamp E. Brogan Investment Fellowship at the College of Business Administration in honor of his father. Beauchamp Brogan, a retired attorney in Knoxville, served as general counsel and secretary to UT’s Board of Trustees for 25 years.

UT Alumnus Who Serves as U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains to Visit Campus

Maj. Gen. Douglas Carver, the U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains and a 1973 alumnus of UT Knoxville, will speak at the Army ROTC Spring Military Formal on Saturday and meet with campus officials and the campus ministries before heading back to Washington, D.C., next week. A native of Rome, Ga., Carver earned his bachelor’s degree in religious studies from UT.
