Wade Guyton, the first UT alumnus to have work featured in the prestigious Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, received an Accomplished Alumni award yesterday evening. The 1995 graduate of the College Scholars Program, who focused his last two years of study in the School of Art, was presented with an Accomplished Alumni award in New York on December 12.
Though some of Santa’s elves spend their days putting together toys, special “scout” elves are adopted by families to watch over boys and girls during the day and report back to Santa at night. That’s the premise behind one of the holiday’s newest crazes—Elf on a Shelf. And it’s the brainchild of Carol Aebersold, a UT alumna.
Alumnus Charles O. “Chad” Holliday—chairman of the board of Bank of America, former CEO of DuPont, and a leader in business sustainability—will receive the fourth honorary degree granted by UT. The degree was approved by the Board of Trustees at its meeting today. Holliday will receive an honorary doctorate in engineering at the December 15 commencement ceremony, where he will be the featured speaker.
A. B. Culvahouse’s legal expertise has helped political leaders make Supreme Court nominations, pick vice presidential candidates, and write treaties. Now, he can add “Accomplished Alumni” to his list of achievements. Friday, the former White House counsel was honored by the university with an Accomplished Alumni award.
More than 1,000 Vol fans joined alumnus and football legend Peyton Manning, University of Tennessee Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek, and alumni donors today to officially dedicate Peyton Manning Pass. The road, named for Manning fourteen years ago, was recently painted to resemble Shields–Watkins field. The custom asphalt stamping and painting project was made possible by UT’s Senior Gift Campaign fund.

The College of Nursing honored forty of its alumni during a celebration of its fortieth anniversary. The Fabulous Forty Nursing Alumni were named at the fourth annual NightinGala on Sept. 21. The Fabulous Forty—forty outstanding College of Nursing alumni—were nominated and selected because of how they make a difference in the lives of individual patients, organizations, and/or the community.
Journalist Woody Paige is best known for his sports knowledge and wit. The ESPN broadcaster and Denver Post reporter and columnist credits UT’s journalism school for building a great foundation for his career. Paige was honored Monday with an Accomplished Alumni award.
An inventor, a connector, a legend. These are just a few of the outstanding alumni who were honored by the university at its alumni board of directors awards dinner on Friday, September 7. UT recognized eighteen outstanding alumni in four categories: Alumni Promise Award, Alumni Service Award, Alumni Professional Achievement Award, and Distinguished Alumni Award, which is the highest honor given.
