Oak Ridge National Laboratory Hires More Than Sixty Engineering Interns

For more than seven decades, UT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory have forged special connections in a number of key areas, perhaps none stronger than the personnel that the two share. That particular bond was on display recently when members of UT’s Office of Professional Practice visited the facilities at ORNL, meeting more than sixty engineering students involved in summer internships at the lab.

Trustees Pass New Budget, Set Tuition

The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees approved a $2.05 billion system-wide budget Thursday and set student tuition and fees for all campuses. UT Knoxville in-state undergraduates will pay between 3 and 6 percent more for tuition beginning this fall. UT Knoxville now has three tuition rates as a result of changes to the 15-4 tuition model last year.

UT’s New Volleyball Facility Named After Cronan

The new volleyball practice facility is being named the “Joan Cronan Volleyball Practice Facility” after Cronan, who spent three decades working for UT Athletics. The Board of Trustees approved the action on Thursday. Construction on the facility will be completed for the fall 2014 season.

Financial Guru Dave Ramsey to UT Grads: It’s a Great Time to Be Graduating

“This is the best time on the planet to be graduating.” That was the message personal money-management expert and national radio personality Dave Ramsey underscored in his message to UT graduates on Friday. Ramsey, who graduated from UT in 1982 with a major in finance and real estate, was the guest speaker at the College of Business Administration’s commencement ceremony.

McClung Museum Hosts Free Stroller Tour April 14

UT’s McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture will host a free stroller tour on Monday, April 14. The 10:00–11:00 a.m. event will be focused on the temporary exhibit Brightly Beaded: North American Indian Glass Beadwork.

UT Confucius Institute Marks First Anniversary with Chinese Delegation Visit

A delegation of faculty and administrators from UT’s Confucius Institute’s Chinese partner—Southeast University in Nanjing, China—will be on campus April 13–15 to explore additional academic collaborations between the two universities. The Chinese delegation’s visit coincides with the first anniversary of the Confucius Institute’s inauguration ceremony.
