WVLT-TV Local 8 Now reported that UT students can now roam the planet Mars with new glasses. Using new Hololens designed by Microsoft, students can actually virtually walk on the planet, while studying the sandy, rocky terrain.

Linda Kah, a UT carbonate sedimentology and geochemistry professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, said she loves that her students get to test the new technology that allows for new ways to visualize the other planets.

UT doctoral student Rachel Kronyak is using this as part of her dissertation research while she works toward getting her PhD in geology. Kronyak is able to see the Rover tracks, rocks and the landscape on Mars through her Hololens device. The purpose of her research is to determine if there was life previously on Mars, but the student says she learns so much more. Read and watch the full story online.
