UT will host the Tennessee State Board of Education for a workshop and quarterly board meeting on Thursday and Friday at the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy.

The board has held various meetings at other Tennessee colleges and universities over the past several years. This week will mark its first quarterly board meeting to be held in Knoxville.

The board workshop will take place from noon to 4:30 p.m. EDT Thursday, October 19, in the Baker Center’s Toyota Auditorium. The agenda is posted on the State Board of Education website. The workshop will be livestreamed.

The board’s regular meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, October 20, also in the Toyota Auditorium. The agenda and links to all agenda items can be found on the State Board of Education website. The meeting will be livestreamed for those unable to attend.

Both meetings are open to the public.

The meetings will cover a variety of topics, including the board’s consideration of two appeals received from two Shelby County charter school applications. The board will also discuss updates to early learning development standards, strategic compensation, and Milestones in Tennessee Education.

Before Thursday’s workshop, board members will visit Norwood Middle School and Norwood Elementary School in Anderson County. The visit was set up in collaboration with UT’s College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.
