Internationally known cellist Colin Carr will perform at UT at 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 27.
Carr will present a concert in the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
“Colin is one of the primary mentors I had in my musical education, and he is universally appreciated as one of the best instrumentalists in cello in the world,” said Wesley Baldwin, UT cello professor. “Colin interprets music in an incredibly literate and emotionally compelling way.”
Carr first began playing cello at the age of five, then three years later went to the Yehudi Menuhin School. He is now a member of the Golub-Kaplan-Carr Trio and a professor at State University of New York at Stony Brook.
While recording and touring extensively over the last 20 years, Carr has appeared throughout the world as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, and teacher. He has played with major orchestras worldwide, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam; the Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and BBC Symphony Orchestra of London, the orchestras of Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, Philadelphia, Montreal, and all major orchestras of Australia and New Zealand. He has been a regular guest at the BBC Proms and has toured Australia twice. He is also a frequent visitor to international chamber music festivals worldwide and has appeared often as a guest with the Guarneri and Emerson string quartets and with New York Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
Carr’s international awards include first prize in the Naumburg Competition, the Gregor Piatigorsky Memorial Award, and second prize in the Rostropovich International Cello Competition.
His program performance at UT will feature Bach suites.
