InVOLved Spotlight: Bachelor’s Social Work Organization

BWSO Members

The Bachelor’s Social Work Organization strives to enhance the professional development of undergraduate social work students, to increase visibility of the social work profession and the UT College of Social Work on campus and in the community.

  • What are some notable accomplishments of your student organization?

On April 17, 2017, our organization was awarded the Large Organization of the Year Award for our outstanding performance and lasting contributions to the Division of Student Life. Our organization also founded the For the One 5K Advocacy Run which was designed to give voices to victims of sexual assault, substance abuse, domestic violence, and mental illness. This event is more than running toward a finish line; it is a race to shine a light and speak up for the person in the statistics—for the one.

  • Does your student organization have any events planned for this year? If so, please provide a brief description and date of each event.

At this moment, our organization does not have any concrete events planned but we have a number of ideas for events in circulation amongst our organization officers and members. In this upcoming year, we plan to create events that will advocate for the students on our campus and the members of our local community as well as strengthen and empower them through our collective outreach.

  • How can students get involved with or join your student organization?

We have meetings every Tuesday from 11:15 am-12:20 pm in Henson Hall room 322. We invite any and all students to our meetings and events regardless of your major! We are students that focus on our collective interest in social work and advocacy both on and off campus!

  • Is there anything else that you would like the campus community to know about your student organization?

BSWO is a great opportunity to serve your campus and local community while making lasting friendships along the way! Our organization is a great tool for networking with other students, acquiring service hours, and obtaining leadership positions to further your academic career!
