Vincent Carilli, vice chancellor for student life, has announced the promotion of several staff members and the addition of a new position to the Division of Student Life.

In early September, Melissa Brown will join the division as director of assessment and strategic initiatives. She will provide oversight of divisional assessment projects, unit-level assessment, and evaluation of programs and services. Brown previously served as an assessment support specialist at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Frank Cuevas, who previously served as assistant vice chancellor for student life and executive director of University Housing, has been appointed associate vice chancellor for student life. In his new role, Cuevas oversees assessment and strategic initiatives, the Center for Career Development, the Office of New Student and Family Programs, Recreational Sports, the Student Union, and University Housing. He is also responsible for enhancing the collaboration between the Division of Student Life and the Division of Academic Affairs.

As Ashley Blamey begins her new role as Title IX coordinator for the campus, a search has begun to fill her assistant vice chancellor position.

After a national search, Laura Bryant has been appointed director of the Center for Health Education and Wellness—the position held by Blamey before she moved into the assistant vice chancellor role. Bryant previously served as the associate director within the center. In her position, she oversees various programs and initiatives that engage the campus community in prevention and intervention efforts to increase awareness, impact decision making, and positively influence the UT community. Some of the center’s programs include the Red Zone pop-up installations, Volunteers Speak Up!, and Be Well.

The division has started two additional searches this month—one for an assistant vice chancellor for student life and dean of students and one for an executive director of University Housing.

Searches for a Pride Center coordinator and a director for the Office of Student Media are ongoing.
