Updated After-Hour Services for 974-HELP Crisis and Referral Line

974-HELP is a 24 hour, seven day a week number that serves to support students in crisis and as a referral resource for students, faculty, staff, and parents who have a concern about the safety and well-being of a student.

974-HELP is answered by a case manager at the Center for Health Education and Wellness from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

The Student Counseling Center has begun to sponsor an after-hours crisis line service available to all students. The after-hours crisis line utilizes the same 974-HELP referral number that has been familiar to students, faculty, and staff for years.

After 5 p.m., on weekends, and days on which the university is closed, the referral line is answered by the mental health professional. Previously, the after-hours line was answered by the UT Police Department.

The mental health professional will provide confidential crisis support to student callers; gather information from those who have a concern about a student; or connect callers to campus and community resources.

If a student’s behavior is an imminent threat to themselves or others, call 911 immediately.
