Scholarships Available for Nonprofit Board Member Training Series

The Consortium for Social Enterprise Effectiveness program with the Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Haslam College of Business, will provide 3 scholarships to UT faculty or staff members to attend “On Board,” a 6-session series to prepare mid-career, high-potential professionals for service as nonprofit board members. Haslam College of Business provides the training, and the Alliance for Better Nonprofits administers the program and connects participants with outstanding nonprofits seeking trained board members.

Participants should be mid-career, high-potential professionals interested in serving our community by participation on nonprofit boards. Previous training, specific educational degrees, nonprofit experience, and particular functional expertise are not requirements. 

There are six classes to be held at The Regas Building in downtown Knoxville. Classes meet from 6 to 8 p.m.

All participants must be sponsored by their employer. Normally, sponsorship would cost $2,000, but this year, Cellular Sales is providing scholarships covering half the cost for each participant in the class. Consequently, cost of sponsoring a participant in the 2017-18 class is $1,000. Employers are limited to a maximum of three students.

The program offers a convenient, low-cost option for developing the sort of “boardroom” thinking needed in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. Participants will build a network of strong contacts from across the region, and will be assisted in finding the ideal nonprofit to serve as a board member. Sponsors will be recognized for investing in their people and their community.
