UT’s Baker Center will host former US Congressman Bob Clement at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in the Toyota Auditorium. Clement will discuss his journey from the Governor’s Residence to Congress as well as his newly-released book.
Attendees will have the chance to purchase his book Presidents, Kings, and Convicts and have it signed by the author.
When Clement was nine years old, his father, Frank G. Clement, was elected governor of Tennessee. As a teen, Clement campaigned with his father and spoke at rallies in all 95 Tennessee counties. He has met or worked alongside every US president since Harry Truman.
At 29, Clement became the youngest statewide officeholder in Tennessee. Later, he was president of Cumberland University. From 1988 to 2003, he served in Congress where he co-authored bipartisan legislation that led to walking trails, bicycle paths, and greenways nationwide.
This event is free and open to the public. Beverages will be provided and attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch.
