Audiences will be transported to the wonders of China during the final installment of this year’s Ready for the World Music Series on Sunday, April 2.
The Ready for the World Music Series: China will feature a reception as well as cultural exhibits and displays provided by the UT Confucius Institute, the UT School of Art, UT Libraries, and the International House. The Confucius Institute will also be providing culinary delights from China.
Events will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center. The musical performance begins at 2 p.m. in the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall. All events are free and open to the public.
The concert will feature performances by guest artists Guangyu Xie, a renowned cellist and professor at the Shanghai Conservatory, and Sharon Cheng, an accomplished New York–based soprano. The guest artists also will collaborate with School of Music faculty featuring pianist Chih-Long Hu, violinist Miroslav Hristov, and flutist Shelley Binder.
The Ready for the World Music Series brings renowned artists to campus to perform and talk about musical styles and literature from diverse regions around the world. Each program is designed to demonstrate the rich musical influences a region has had on the traditions of Western classical music.
The UT Confucius Institute, the UT School of Art, the UT Libraries, and the International House will provide the array of cultural and artistic exhibits. The Confucius Institute will also be providing a reception of culinary delights from China.
