Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennessee, is the latest hospital to partner with UT’s College of Nursing to provide the Precious Prints Project to families who have lost a child.
The student-led project is a partnership with Grant Barton, owner and artist of Precious Metal Prints, and provides area hospitals free silver fingerprint charms to give to grieving families.
Since its creation in 2011, the project has provided the special keepsakes to 450 families.
“It is a privilege to direct this project,” said Lynne Miller, nursing instructor and director of the Precious Prints Project. “It’s the giving spirit of our students and the loving persistence of the nurses caring for these families in their time of grief that allows the project to endure.”
Each year, UT’s Student Nurses Association hosts a Sprint for the Prints 5K to raise money for the project.
“Blount Memorial Hospital is proud to partner with UT’s College of Nursing to provide our families experiencing perinatal loss such a beautiful memory of their child,” said Lori Irwin, RNC and clinical educator at BMH.
Other hospitals that support the project include East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Parkwest Medical Center, Physicians Regional Medical Center, and the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
