CNN recently detailed how a study involving UT graduate Scott Kelly and his twin brother Mark could influence future space exploration, particular a manned mission to Mars.

Scott Kelly, who earned his masters from the UT Space Institute, spent one year in space aboard the International Space Station while Mark remained earthbound. UTSI is part of the Tickle College of Engineering.

By comparing their before and after physical and mental states after the mission, NASA was able to come away with some startling conclusions, including that Scott had undergone some changes at the genetic level.

CNN said that the data is still being analyzed by NASA in the hopes of better preparing astronauts.
